Karen Jeffrey

Karen Jeffrey is a Toronto born abstract artist working in cold wax and oil. She currently resides in Markham, Ontario, with her two teenage sons, a cat and two rescued Boston/Pugs.

She is a OCA graduate in Advertising/Design, and an accomplished Pastry Chef. Three years ago, she traded one palette knife in for another, and thus began her journey.
Karens body of work is largely reflective of her many travels and she draws her inspirations from her surroundings, her memories and the dialogue in her head. Karens forms live in an environment she renders luminous and transparent.

She inscribes, blots, strokes, scrapes and sprays to move the paintings toward a desire for increased openness. The cold wax and oil medium involves moving through multiple layers to get to the essence of the piece, allowing the colours and space within the piece to play a more prominent role in achieving a balanced and lively visual environment, where the forms, lines and marks coexist.
