Karen Franzen

“Function, playfulness and an element of storytelling all play a role in my ceramic work.”

Karen graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 1989 majoring in Ceramics and Textile Design. She began her studio practice 30 years ago as an artist in residence at The Craft Studio at Harbourfront Centre and has exhibited her work in Canada, USA, Bermuda and Japan. Her work is in the homes of collectors all over the globe.

Karen is an active member of the community including local parks groups, farmers markets, artists collectives and she is the founding member of The 506 Streetcar Project. Currently she works from her home studio perched along the Williamson Ravine in Toronto’s Beach Hill neighbourhood where she teaches clay workshops, and prepares for several yearly exhibitions.
