Andrew Stelmack
Andrew was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved to Toronto in 1991 to begin and fulfill his artistic journey as a well-known stage actor. After twenty-five years of acting and singing on all of Canada’s biggest stages, he decided it was time to try another challenge for the second half of his life and embarked on a visual arts career. He is now an accomplished visual artist, well known for his big, bold, and colourful abstracts as well as his soothing blue landscape Marshmallow Skies series. He maintains a fall/winter/spring studio in Toronto and a summer studio on Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba. His artwork is found in galleries across Canada and can be found in both private and corporate collections in Canada, the USA, Asia, Europe, and Australia.
Andrew’s “Marshmallow Skies” series is an exploration of the peace, tranquillity, and awe-inspiring power of a prairie sky, a prairie landscape, or the wide-open horizon of a mighty lake like Lake Winnipeg or Lake Ontario. Each abstract landscape incorporates his signature cubist clouds, a square sun or moon, that will fill you with peace and calm.
Alternatively, his bold and colourful abstracts yearn to be the wow in any space. Instantly demanding your attention and a visceral reaction. But soon after a closer examination, the immediate sensory reaction melts into introspection, and they too will fill you with a sense of peace and calm. Andrew likes to call them his exploration of the “calm within chaos.”
