Angela Lane is an impressionistic painter who creates rich, colorful art in mixed-media encaustic (beeswax) that reflects her "Happy Places," the joy, beauty, and energy experienced in nature.

Nature Inspires Joy -- We live in a connected beautiful, awe-inspiring natural world - the light, colour and energy move me. This is my 'happy place'; if I listen carefully, I can hear it sing. Whether I am exploring a new territory on travels or closer to home hiking Ontario trails, kayaking our beautiful lakes or simply spending time in my gardens, my response is always a general lifting of spirit that feeds a deep-rooted joyful attitude of heart.

I love trees. I love their graceful, varied forms. I love the forest ecosystems and their crisscrossing complexity, resilience, diversity and symbolism. I am fascinated by its interconnected relationships and all the conversations happening underfoot as I immerse myself in its grandeur. With my Connections Collection I celebrate individual strength and resilience. You find a picture of the ideal human narrative in nature - aligned in design to live in relationship - like trees standing tall, supported through a system of deep roots, connections and regrowth.

I approach art-making intuitively. There is something simply freeing about the looseness of play with translucent pigmented beeswax and its response to heat. The back-and-forth nature of this tactile medium, takes you on a wonderful journey of discovery where beauty reveals itself, even in the unexpected. I move expressively and freely as I lay down my "map" through incising in layers of wax. This helps inform the piece and the magic comes to life as I respond to delightful happenings. Through addition and subtraction, in diaphanous ethereal layers, rhythms of movement unfold and come to life in compositions that awaken a memory of a place visited or envisioned.
